_Boulder DA offers ex-cop Brent Curnow plea deal in Mapleton elk case
Boulder County District Attorney Stan Garnett offered a plea deal Friday to former police officer Brent Curnow over his role in the New Year's Day killing of a trophy elk on Mapleton Hill, saying he was "less culpable" than Sam Carter, the ex-cop accused of actually killing the animal.
The proposed disposition, filed in Boulder District Court, would allow Curnow, 39, to plead guilty to one felony and four misdemeanors, while three other felonies and a misdemeanor would be dropped in exchange for the plea.
Curnow had not accepted the offer as of Friday afternoon. His attorney could not be reached for comment.
